Carl Sandburg College Nursing Program Receives Donation from Galesburg Cottage Hospital

Carl Sandburg College’s nursing program recently received two hospital beds and a gurney donated by Galesburg Cottage Hospital. Representatives from Sandburg and the Carl Sandburg College Foundation met with administrators from Cottage to accept the donation in late January.

The donated items will replace outdated equipment in Sandburg’s College of Nursing. One of the beds will be used in Sandburg’s Simulation Center, where nursing students practice life-saving methods on a Laerdal SimMan, a mannequin that gives students realistic patient care experiences, as part of their program curriculum. The SimMan was purchased as part of the Nursing Challenge Campaign in 2016. Cottage Hospital served as a major donor in that campaign, which raised more than $120,000.

“Galesburg Cottage Hospital has long been a strong community partner in educating our future health care professionals here at Carl Sandburg College,” said Kris Gray, dean of health professions. “In addition to these generous donations to our programs, Cottage also provides invaluable clinical experiences for many of our health programs students. We would like to extend a special thank you to Pamela Davis, CNO of Galesburg Cottage Hospital, and the Prairieland Hospice Foundation Board for facilitating this generous donation. Our students will benefit from our affiliation for years to come.”
